A fastening device for bracelets, necklaces and similar articles comprises two main components 10, 28 formed to interfit with each other when in longitudinally overlapping relation so as to form a link for joining the ends of the bracelet or other said article one of the main components including a body part and a clasp 20 movable relatively to the body part between open and closed positions in the former of which the main components of the fastening device can be released from each other to allow the bracelet or other said article to be taken off and in the latter of which positions the two main components are held together in interfitting relation, the body part being in the form of an arm made from a single strip metal blank including integrally connected portions for forming side flanges 11, a base part 12 connecting them and lugs 14 on which is pivotally mounted a safety catch 24 for retaining the clasp in its closed position. As shown the part of the body part between the lugs 14 is curled to form a tubular catch element 16 which co-operates with the clasp 20 and which also serves as a spacer preventing inward deflection of the lugs 14. The safety catch is connected to the lugs 14 by a pivot pin 27 which also serves to mount a link 32 by which the body part is connected to the. article. The opposite ends of the margins to the lugs 14 are shaped to form circular ears 18 to which the clasp 20 is connected by means of a pivot pin 19. The clasp 20 is formed of strip metal curled to receive the pivot pin 19 at one end and the other end of which is bent to form a hook part 22 which is engageable with the catch element 16. Between the hook part 22 and the remainder of the clasp a rib 23 is formed and in the position in which the safety catch retains the clasp in its fastening position the safety catch overlies the clasp with the rib 24 projecting through a slot in the safety catch. The main component 28 is formed from bar stock of H section and its web is formed with a series of longitudinally spaced openings 30 through any one of which the clasp 20 can be threaded so that the overall length of the fastening device is adjustable as desired. One end of the component 28 is provided with a link 33 for connecting to one end of the article.
