Abstract

103,804. Corradine, E. Dec. 8, 1916. Lubricant conveyed by fluid.-Oil is supplied to the steam chest and other parts of a locomotive engine when the steam is cut off, as when the locomotive is running down a decline, by a lubricator 1 to which steam is admitted by a valve 3 operated by the regulator lever 6. The valve 3 is open when the lever 6 is in both the ' on ' and ' off ' positions, but is closed by further movement of the lever beyond the ' off ' position. The steam bubbles through oil in the vessel 1 and carries oil vapour through a pipe 7 to the parts to be lubricated. A valve 8 is placed in the pipe 7 to prevent back-pressure from reaching the vessel 1 and to obstruct the passage of liquid oil and water through the pipe. The valve consists of a sliding plug 10, Fig. 4, one end of which seats against a shoulder 12, and the other end 13 is reduced in thickness to allow the steam to pass into the pipe 7. The vessel 1 has a filling-plug 14 and a draincock 15.
