Abstract
1,037,979. Haymaking machines. MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR. A.G. Sept. 23, 1963 [Oct. 5, 1962], No. 37301/63. Heading A1F. In a haymaking machine, of the type having at least one rake-head 9 rotatable about a vertical axis, the, or each, head is slidably mounted on a vertical guide in the form of a splined shaft 7 which is surrounded by impervious sheaths 22, 27 which protect it from the ingress of dust and moisture, the rake-head being adjustable up and down the shaft in response to the movements of a feeler wheel 14 running on the ground. The heads are driven from a horizontal shaft 1 connected by crownwheels 5 and bevel gears 6 to tubular shafts 7 each freely rotatable on a fixed spigot 4 and having external splines on which the rake-head is slidable, the rakehead hub 8 resting on a ring 17 which can be moved up an ddown by links 11, 16, 13 connected to a feeler wheel 14. The sheaths may comprise bellows, as shown, or tubular spring-steel members either spiral or telescopic. The sheaths may be either stationary relatively to the rake head, or rotate with it.
