Abstract

1,037,760. Vehicle suspension. ADAM OPEL A.G. June 24, 1965 [July 2, 1964], No. 26749/65. Headings B7D and B7H. A motor vehicle suspension comprises a triangular shaped swing arm 13 having pivotal connections 16, 18 to a transverse structural member 17 and a ball joint connection 15 to a wheel carrier member 12. A coil spring 23 is disposed between a conical seating member 31 on the swing arm 13 and a seating on the transverse member 17. A pear-shaped bump stop is mounted on the seating member 31. A telescopic vibration damper 14 is fixed to the wheel mounting 12 and serves to guide the stub axle 11, its piston rod 44 being resiliently connected to the vehicle by means including a rubber bushing clamped between plates 55 and 56. A protective tube 63 is affixed to the lower clamping plate 55. The cylindrical member of the vibration damper is removably mounted in a protective tube 65 which is rigidly and permanently affixed to the wheel mounting 12. The cylindrical member comprises a working cylinder 79 and a heat dissipating casing 89 which may be corrugated and such that all or some of the corrugations resiliently press against the tube 65 or may be elliptical in section and such that parts of its surface resiliently engage the tube 65. It also comprises a closure member 71 and is retained in place by a ring nut 85. The suspension also a transverse stabilizing torsion bar 24 and may be assembled on the transverse member 17 which is bolted to the vehicle frame 19 as a unit. An engine bearer bracket 30 is welded to the member 17.
