Abstract
1,037,605. Cold separation of air. INSTITUT FUR CHEMIEANLAGEN. Sept. 30, 1964, No. 39796/64. Heading F4P. Separation of hydrocarbons from liquid oxygen formed at the base of an air separation column 1 is effected by passing said liquid oxygen into a column 2 where it is washed by a solvent for the hydrocarbons which does not support combustion, passing the dissolved hydrocarbons from the base of column 2 to a separating column 3 from the head of which residual oxygen gas is withdrawn and finally passing the dissolved hydrocarbons to a separating column 4 from the head of which the hydrocarbons are discharged as effluent gas whilst purified solvent is returned from the base of column 4 to the washing column 2. A portion of the overhead oxygen leaving column Z is fed to a krypton and xenon enriching column 5. A suitable solvent is C.Cl 2 .F 2 .
