Abstract

<PICT:1037341/C1/1> In the manufacture of filaments or thin rods of glass or like material, the molten material flows from a melting pot along a main feed channel 23 into side chambers 7 on one or both sides of the main channel, the side chambers being provided with nozzles formed from perforated plates through which the filaments are drawn. Each side channel is temperature controlled and in each nozzle chamber the temperature and depth of glass is under control. At the entrance to each side channel, the corner 34 is chamfered off while the opposite corner 33 projects part way across the main channel to facilitate the flow of material into the side channels.
