1,037,084. Making magnetic heads. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 3, 1963 [May 8, 1962; Jan. 29, 1963], No. 7597/63. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division G5] A magnetic head core is made by placing equal-length ferrite blocks 1, 3, at least one of which is of channel section over mica or beryllium-copper spacers 5 of the required gaplength; placing glass or enamel rods 6 (or plates or powder) alongside the spacers 5; heating the assembly under pressure to a maximum of 900‹ C.; and cutting the assembly along the directions A, B into individual cores. The enamel or glass may be placed in grooves 14, Fig. 8, and multiple-gap cores may be produced as in Fig. 2. Preferably, the ferrite members are initially heated to 800‹ to 1000‹ C. to heat-etch the joint surfaces with improved subsequent adherence of the jointing material. An appropriate enamel formula is given and alternative ferrite block-forms may be used (Figs. 3-7, not shown).
