Abstract
1,036,725. Induction heating. DELAPENA & SON Ltd. May 6, 1963 [May 5, 1961], No. 17355/62. Heading H5H. An inductor for induction heating wheel teeth or splined elements includes a single currentcarrying loop having projections to project into the spaces between the teeth, each projection having an associated U-shaped magnetic core which straddles the inductor loop with the free ends of its limbs extending in the same direction as its respective projection. Cores 11, Figs. 1 and 3, formed of laminations, dust composition, or moulded ferrite, are seated in slots formed in the upper, lower, and outer surfaces of the copper inductor ring 10, with the free ends of their limbs projecting inwardly beyond the ring, a heat-resistant insulating material 14 (Fig. 3, not shown) filling the intervening space. The ring 10 has a coolant channel 17, and is slotted between adjacent projections, the slots being filled with iron laminations to reduce the heating effect at the tips of the gear teeth. The ring may be traversed axially with respect to the wheel, and may have apertures communicating with channel 17 to provide quenching water. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown), the cores fit over the external surface of the ring rather than in slots.
