Abstract

1035975 Electric selective signalling FOSTER INSTRUMENT CO Ltd 26 Feb 1965 [26 Feb 1964] 7965/64 Headings G4D D6Y and D7X Electrical apparatus for obtaining the product of two quantities in digital form comprises a cyclically-operable electrical switch arranged to operate with a mark : space ratio controlled by a bridge circuit measuring one of the quantities, a pulse train with a prf proportional to the other quantity being supplied to pulse responsive means via the switch. Heat transferred to a liquid in a heating apparatus is measured by passing pulses at a prf proportional to the flow-rate to a switch (relay or electronic) controlled via a phase-sensitive amplifier from a bridge which compares the input and output temperatures of the liquid and incorporates a motor-driven potentiometer. The switch is closed (and passes pulses) for a fraction of the time, proportional to the temperature difference. Temperature-dependence of density and specific heat can be corrected for by a resistance sensitive to some mean liquid temperature and incorporated in the bridge.
