Abstract

103,590. McNaughton, J. May 15, 1916. Stereotype.-A matrix for casting flat stereotype plates, and particularly for use with the casting- apparatus described in Specification 101,072, is made of dished form having flanges on two sides and one end, the other end being flat and in the same plane with the type depressions in the face of the matrix. The flanges 0, Fig. 1, are produced by means of bearing-members B, Fig. 3, arranged on two sides and one end of the forme F. The other end O<1> is left at the same height as the impression on the concave surface of the matrix, to allow ready flow of metal to the mould. If more than one impression is made on a single matrix, the impressions are separated by raised parts R of less height than the flanges O. The flanges 0 rest on marginal flanges of the casting- box and are clamped by the cover-plate.
