Abstract

1,035,443. Random dyeing cellulosic yarn. ASTRO DYE WORKS Inc. July 22, 1963, No. 28998/63. Heading D1B. Random dyeing cellulosic yarn is achieved by injecting into at least one selected portion of a round package of yarn an aqueous alkaline solution of a reactive dye and allowing the so-treated package to stand until the dye has reacted with the yarn. The specified cellulosic materials are cotton, viscose, cuprammonium, nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate and triacetate. The dye solution may be injected into the wound package by means of a hollow injection needle perforated along its length, forced air or a perforated cone under pressure. Figures 2 and 3 show a specific embodiment in which the round package 11 with dyed areas 12-14 is shown in elevation and cross-section. After the dyestuff has reacted with the fibre (a) the package may be stored in the damp condition in which case a mildew resist agent should be present in the dye liquor, (b) the yarn may be tufted into a fabric, scoured and bleached with H 2 0 2 or (c) the yarn may be scoured and dried, e.g. in a package dyeing machine. The dye liquor advantageously contains a melting agent, e.g. an ethylene oxide condensate. Examples of dyeing cotton viscose and cuprammonium rayon are given.
