Abstract
1,035,058. Forced flow steam boilers. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. Nov. 12, 1963 [Nov. 20. 1962], No. 44584/63. Heading F4A. A forced flow once through vapour generator' e.g. a steam boiler heated by combustion gases and which can be started rapidly and with a minimum heat loss, consists of a feed pump 12 supplying working fluid from a deaerator 14 through a preheater 18 and an economizer 22 to a vapour generating section 24 and primary and finishing superheaters 26, 28 from which vapour passes through a turbine 30 to a condenser 32 with a shut-off valve 54 and a throttling valve 56 arranged in parallel to control the flow between section 24 and the superheaters. The starting method comprises closing valves 54, 56 opening a boiler shut-off valve 51 in an overflow conduit 50 to the condenser, supplying vapour from an auxiliary source 38 to the deaerator and circulating fluid through section 24 whilst the generator is being fired, until the clean-up operation is completed. A feed valve 20 is then closed and with valve 51 set to open at a given relief pressure, fluid is recirculated by pump 48 through section 24, at the same time the turbine is heated and rolled by vapour from source 38 which first cools the superheaters. When the fluid in section 24 reaches a given temperature and pressure above those in superheater 26, valve 56 is gradually opened by an amount which ensures that all the fluid passing into the superheater immediately vaporizes, feed valve 20 is opened to pass an equivalent flow into section 24 whilst the auxiliary vapour flow is reduced by closing valve 43. When the pressure drop across valve 56 becomes negligible, then valve 54 is opened and valve 43 is closed to establish normal operating conditions. In another embodiment another superheater is placed between the vapour generating section 24 and valves 54, 56 between intersections of conduits 44 and 50.
