Abstract

Adhesive-coated articles, which may be band-shaped and made of yarn, plastics, paper, metal, or wood, are flock-coated, with textile flock or oblong metal particles in an apparatus which comprises a sieve-bottomed feeding device forming part of a first electrode, and an earthed flat body acting as a second electrode, located below the first electrode, both electrodes being extended beyond the sieve-bottom, in the direction of travel of the moving object and/or in the opposite direction (cf. Fig. 1 not shown).ALSO:An apparatus for depositing particles upon an adhesive-coated moving object comprises a feeding device with a sieve-like bottom, forming part of a first electrode, and an earthed flat body acting as a second electrode, located below the first electrode, both electrodes being extended beyond the sieve-like bottom, in the direction of travel of the moving object and/or in the opposite direction. The electrodes may be extended in a direction transverse to the direction of travel of the moving object. The distance between the electrode extensions may increase in the direction of travel of the moving object. The first electrode may consist of several mutually-insulated electrodes which are under voltages decreasing in the direction of travel of the moving object. The sieve-like bottom may be flat or upwardly-curved. The objects coated may be of any shape e.g. band-shaped and may be made of yarn, plastics, paper, metal, or wood. The particles with which the moving object is coated may be textile flocks, or oblong metal particles. The electrodes may consist of sheet metal, wire mesh, or tensioned wires. In an embodiment illustrating the flock-coating of yarn (see Fig. 5 not shown) flocks are fed from above the yarn but are deposited both from above and from below. The flock is anchored in the adhesive-coating of the yarn by being passed through a drying zone. The yarn may be twisted during its passage through the coating and drying zones. If the article to be flock-coated is not band-shaped, the electrodes are so arranged that the field or lines of force during coating are perpendicular to the surfaces of the articles to be flock-coated.
