1,034,853. Grinding. SIDKOPINGS MEKANISKA VERKSTADS A.B. Feb. 18, 1963 [March 10, 1962], No. 6492/63. Heading B3D. A truing and feeding device for the grinding wheel 1 of a centreless grinding machine comprises a truing tool 9 which is reciprocable axially of the grinding wheel between a position of rest and a reversing position, a control surface 15 located concentrically with the grinding wheel so as to be trimmed by the truing tool in the same stroke or an extension thereof, and a gauging device 16 which senses the position of the control surface and interrupts a feed means for the grinding wheel when that portion of the grinding wheel which contacts the workpiece 4 has reached a predetermined position. When the grinding wheel requires truing, the tool 9, which may be a diamond, is moved in the direction of the arrow C and urged by a spring so that a follower engages a cam to trim the grinding wheel and control surface. The tool may then be advanced a small distance before returning to its rest position to fine trim the surface 15 and wheel. The slide for the grinding wheel is then advanced to a position determined by a pneumatic or other type of gauge 16 cooperating with the surface 15 to position the grinding wheel for operating on the next workpiece. The feed of the grinding wheel may be effected during the return stroke of the truing tool. The surface 15 may be on a plastic wheel, a grinding wheel less porous than the grinding wheel 1, or on the grinding wheel 1 itself.
