Abstract

1,034,818. Automatic control of shears. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 30, 1963 [Sept. 11,1962], No. 34696/62. Heading G3R. In a control system for a flying shear, a device 51 sums the voltage from strip-driven tachometer generator 17 with a negative voltage from tachometer generator 15 which is coupled with the motor 13 driving the shears. A device 53 integrates the output from summing device 51. A further summing device 55 receives an input from terminal 39 representing the predetermined lengths of material which is to be cut off, and an input from terminal 41 indicating the periphery of the circle swept by the shear blades, as well as an input from the integrating device 53. The output supplied to the motor regulator 21 represents the sum of the shear circle periphery and.the time integral of the linear velocity of the material, less the sum of the desired length and the time integral of the peripheral velocity of the shear blades, the integrals being taken from the datum point given by the making of the last cut. The integrator 53 is set to zero by a pulse applied through line 47 from the tachometer generator 15. A holding signal is applied through terminal 49 to hold the integrator at zero until a desired starting point relative to the strip is reached.
