Abstract

2,5 - Dichloro - 3,6 - bis - (p - octyl-anilino)-1,4-benzoquinone is obtained by heating p-octyl aniline with chloranil in the presence of sodium acetate and ethanol.ALSO:A light stabilized a -olefine polymeric composition comprises a normally solid a -olefine polymeric component and a stabilizer comprising a 1:4-benzoquinone of the general formula <FORM:1034182/C3/1> wherein each X represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, Y represents an amino, alkylamino, substituted alkylamino, arylamino, substituted arylamino, alkoxy, phenoxy, halide or nitro radical and Z represents an amino, alkylamino or arylamino radical in which the alkyl or aryl portion can be substituted or an alkoxy or phenoxy radical, with at least one of said Y and Z radicals containing a nitrogen atom. In examples: flat plates are made by compression moulding a composition obtained by milling polyethylene with 2,5-dichloro-3,6-bis(p-octyl-anilino) -1,4-benzoquinone in a heated roll compounder (4) and films are cast on heated ferrotype plates from compositions containing tetrahydronaphthalene, polypropylene polymer and as stabilizer 2,5-dichloro-3,6-diamino-, - bis(o - anisidino) - or - bis(p - octyl - anilino - 1,4-benzoquinone.
