Abstract

The invention comprises a triphenoxathiazine of the general formula <FORM:1034183/C4-C5/1> wherein X1 and Y1 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom and each R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, substituted alkyl, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino, nitro, halide, alkoxy, alkylthio, phenyl or substituted phenyl radical. Such compounds are employed as light stabilizers for normally solid a -olefine polymers (see Division C3). In an example 6,13 - dichloro - 3 - nitrotriphenoxa - thiazine is prepared by reacting o-aminothiophenol with sodium methoxide in ethanol, warming the product with chloranil to obtain 1,2,4-trichloro-3H - phenothiazine - 3 - one and heating the latter in ethanol with sodium acetate and 2-amino-5-nitrophenol.ALSO:A light stabilized a -olefine polymeric composition comprises a normally solid a -olefine polymeric component and a triphenoxathiazine of the formula <FORM:1034183/C3/1> wherein X1 and Y1 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom and each R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, substituted alkyl, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino, nitro, halide, alkoxy, alkylthio, phenyl or substituted phenyl radical. Many suitable a -olefinic polymers are specified. In an example a film is cast from a dope containing a polypropylene polymer, 1,2,3,4 - tetra - hydronaphthalene and 6,13-dichloro-3-nitrotriphenoxathiazine.
