Abstract

1,034,128. Piles. S. SEROTA. May 4, 1964 [May 9, 1963], No. 18385/63. Heading E1H. A method of securing a pile in the ground comprises inserting a tubular casing 1 (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) into the ground 6 inserting an expanding mechanism 2 into the casing to a level below ground level and operating the expanding mechanism to deform the sides of the casing below ground level, retracting the mechanism and removing it from the casing. In Fig. 1 (not shown) said mechanism comprises hydraulically operated rams 4 with heads 5 that form horizontal corrugations 3. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the mechanism comprises a ram head 8 which ruptures the casing. Grout fed to a pipe 10 may be pumped through a nozzle 9 in the ram head after the anchorages have been provided by the deformations and the expanding mechanism removed, the casing may be filled with concrete and reinforced as desired.
