Abstract
1,034,026. Teaching shooting. D. G. VIDAL. May 17, 1965 [May 18, 1964], No. 20790/65. Heading F3C. A device for practicing target shooting with a fire-arm having a barrel, a chamber for housing a cartridge and a firing-pin comprises two separate portions, one a firing-pin sensitive portion, Fig. 1, for housing in the chamber and the other a barrel portion, Fig. 2, for housing in the barrel. The firing-pin sensitive portion comprises a cartridge shaped electrically conducting casing 2 in which are a block 5 and an electrically conducting contact member 8. The barrel portion comprises an electrically insulating casing 12 in which is held a radiant energy source 14, pole 29 of which is connected by conductor 15 to one side of an electrical energy source and pole 16 of which is connected to an electrically conducting member 23, and a spring-loaded electrically conducting member 19. When the trigger of the fire-arm is pulled the firing-pin 27 strikes the block 5 which through the spring 7 moves contact member 8 to the right compressing spring 10, member 19 also being moved to the right, compressing spring 18, to contact the member 23 to complete the electrical circuit through the members 23, 19, 8, 2, chamber 26, barrel 13 and conductor 31. Spring 7 becomes partly compressed after the two springs 10, 18 have been fully compressed and while the spring 7 is expanding the circuit is held completed to pass a beam of radiant energy down the barrel, the beam being concentrated by the adjustable device 34. The radiant energy may be luminous or infra-red and the target may have an arrangement of photo-electric cells to emit signals according to the position of the " hits " or may be a film-sensitive to the radiation. In a modification of the barrel portion members 19 and 23 are integral.
