Class 40(7) [Also in Groups XXI and XL(b)] In a combined time setting and proximity projectile fuse the proximity device acts to correct a time setting voltage applied to the projectile on launching whereby the projectile is exploded at a minimum distance between it and the target (see Groups XXI and XL(b)). The proximity device may be arranged to act on the time setting voltage, to ignite the charge, when radiation received directly or indirectly from the target or from the ground falls to a minimum value. This may be arranged by a radar system on the projectile having a directional characteristic 10, in which 9 indicates the trajectory of the projectile 8. When the minimum distance exists between the projectile and the target 13 the received radiation has a minimum value. The projectile may also be controlled by radiation received directly from a ground radar system which stops transmitting when the radar echoes of the target and projectile coincide.
