Abstract

Polyethylene terephthalate is stabilized against degradation due to ultra-violet radiation by incorporating in it up to 5% by weight of poly(resorcinol terephthalate). The composition may also contain titanium dioxide. Poly(resorcinol terephthalate) is made by reacting resorcinol diacetate with terephthalic acid in the presence of magnesium.
