Abstract

1,033,865. Hooks. UP-RIGHT Inc. Feb. 1, 1965, No. 4231/65. Heading F2H. A hook 10, adapted to be fixed to the end of a first tubular member 18 and used to connect a second tubular member 36 at right angles to the first member, has a locking member 25 mounted thereon whereby the hook automatically locks on movement of the member 36 into the hook and unlocks when the member 36 is moved out of the hook. The crescent-shaped locking member 25 is mounted on a shaft 21 for limited pivotal movement between a first rotational position, Fig. 4 (not shown), and a second rotational position, Fig. 2 (not shown). The shaft 21 is movable in the body of the hook in a transverse direction, between a first transverse position, Fig. 3 (not shown), and a second transverse position, Fig. 1, the locking member 25 being movable to first and second transverse positions in the slot 27 in the body 11. In the second transverse or locked position, Fig. 1, the member 25 is urged towards a shoulder 24 on the shaft 21 by a compression spring 25, the slot 27 permitting the locking member 25 to rotate between a first and second rotational position. The hook is unlocked by applying downward pressure to the shaft 21 against the bias of the spring 26 to move the locking member 25 to its first transverse position in which position member 25 is held in place by engagement of a rib 28 on the body of the hook with a correspondingly shaped groove in the member, the locking member being held against rotation by the spring. On sufficient force being applied to the member 25, the rib will cam out of the groove.
