Abstract
In a process for the steam reforming of hydrocarbons boiling at temperatures up to 350 DEG C., the hydrocarbon is passed with steam at elevated temperature over a catalyst comprising Ni and/or one or more platinum group metals, from 2-49% of Cu, Ag or An or a compound thereof and a refractory support material. Additionally the catalyst may contain an hydraulic binding agent. The hydrocarbon may be normally liquid having B.pt 30-220 DEG C. or a liquefied petroleum gas. Preferably they contain no or at most 5% aromatics. Examples are given in which petroleum naphtha B.pt 30-170 DEG C. is reformed at S.V. 10 liquid v/v catalyst/hours and a stream ratio of 5.ALSO:A hydroforming catalyst comprises Ni and/or one or more Pt group metals, form 2-4% of Cu, Ag or Au or a compound thereof and a refractory support comprising at least in part a hydraulic binding agent. Refractory supports are defined as oxides Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Al, Ce, Si, Ti, Zr, Th, V, W, Mu or Cr. Hydraulic binding agents mentioned are "Ciment Fondu" (Registered Trade Mark) and Portland Cement. Examples are given.
