A laminated belt comprises an insert of reinforcing strands sandwiched between a cellular layer of rubber or other flexible material (e.g. polyurethane foam) and another layer of rubber or similar flexible material, which may also be of cellular structure. The strands are embedded under slight pressure in the adhesive covered surface of the cellular layer before the covering layer is applied and bonded, e.g. as a preformed layer or by casting or spraying. Alternatively, a prepared assembly of inserts and the cellular layer is applied to the other layer. In making an endless belt by means of a spliced joint, the joints of the reinforcing strands are offset to give increased strength. The covering layer may surround the inserts and the cellular layer. Multi-ply assemblies are referred to.
