[Also in Division A3] A drier for lasted shoes comprises an inner housing 189 (Figure not shown), a conveyer 55 in the housing having means 55a for individually supporting a plurality of lasts, a plurality of heating units 195 so arranged in the housing as to irradiate the shanks of lasted uppers without appreciable heat being applied to the insole portions, and a fan 198 for drawing cooling air through the housing. The heating units provide a high temperature at the entrance of the housing and a lower temperature at the exit, and the fan is mounted adjacent the upper portion of the inner housing to draw air in through perforations 200, 201 at the lower portion and out through perforations 199 at the upper portion, an outer housing 190, 191 substantially confining the air to a circulating stream. The outer housing comprises two spaced shells with insulation 216 therebetween, and has adjustable ports 202 through which moist air may be removed if desired. The elongated heaters are divided into three groups, the intermediate group operating at intermediate temperature to maintain a constant drying temperature for removing the bulk of the moisture.
