Abstract
A pulverent silver based alloy, for use in the production of plastic tooth filling compositions when triturated with mercury, consists of <TABS:1032272/C6-C7/1> the balance, apart from unavoidable impurities, being silver in the range 80-99.5%. Up to 1% (based on the total weight of the alloy) of the metals Pt and Pd, may be replaced by Rh and/or Ru and/or Ir and/or Os and up to 0.5% (based on the total weight of the alloy) of the base metals, may be replaced by Ni and/or Co and/or Cr and/or Si. The alloy may be comminuted mechanically or the molten alloy may be sprayed e.g. from a plasma arc torch into a liquid (e.g. water). The alloy may also be prepared in the pulverulent form by cathodic deposition from a solution of suitable compounds or by precipitation from such solution. The preferred grain size is less than 0.2 mm.
