Abstract

1, 032, 141. Making gas filter elements. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Jan. 1, 1965 [Jan. 8, 1964], No. 13/65. Heading B1T. A thermpplastic and sealing ring is attached to an annulus 2 of fibrous material supported on a rigid perforated cylinder 1 by arranging the ring, annulus and cylinder in a curing former which is then heated to melt the ring, the material of the ring then flowing around and bonding to the fibres of the annulus and to the cylinder. As shown, the former is dipped into a bath of molten bismuthtin eutectic at 350‹F, which melts the polyvinyl chloride ring but not the nylon fibres of the annulus. Alernatively, baths of hot water or organic liquid or steam or heated gas may effect the bonding and the curing process, which is applied to each end of the element in turn.
