Abstract

1,031,957. Type-bar making machines. LINOTYPE G.m.b.H. Feb. 9, 1965 [Feb. 12, 1964], No. 5561/65. Heading B6W. In a line-casting machine, to prevent a largebody matrix jamming, the assembler slide 7 is moved away a predetermined amount from the star-wheel 6 by a U -shaped finger 10 on a pivoted lever 11. The finger 10 engages in a peripheral groove 9 in the star-wheel during normal operation. An electromagnet 15 is used to move the finger 10 into engagement with assembler slide stop 8 or the last matrix assembled on the slide. Energization of the electromagnet is governed by two switches in the circuit thereof. One switch 41, Fig. 4 (not shown), is closed when a magazine is selected which contains certain large-body matrices likely to jam. When the key of one of the large-body matrices is depressed, the short release bar thereof, which is provided with a nose 21, Fig. 3 (not shown), co-operates with a pivoted plate 26 extending the length of the keyboard, which plate allows actuation of the second switch 25.
