Abstract

1,031,139. Wells &c. CAMCO, Inc. Dec. 30, 1964 [Feb. 3, 1964], No. 52903/64. Heading E1F. A gas-well safety-valve is in the form of a flap 22 on a hinge pin at the inner end of a fixed pipe 10 suspended at a given depth in a tubing string. A seat 24 of rubber or like material is provided for the flap 22. A further pipe 7 is slidable within the fixed pipe 10, a sealed space 4 therebetween is of atmospheric pressure whilst a spring 20 urges the inner pipe outwardly against the force of the well fluid acting on the upper end 21 thereof, which force normally overcomes the spring and positions the inner pipe 7 to hold the flap 22 open as shown. Any fault downstream of the valve that creates a pressure drop thereacross enables the spring 20 to lift the inner tube 7 clear of flap, which latter will be closed by the well pressure.
