A method of making a geographical or topographical map comprises the steps of (1) printing on to a flat transparent sheet a map representation, (2) covering the printed representation by a translucent white layer and (3) printing on to the white layer a second map representation. The white layer may comprise a translucent plastics sheet or it may comprise a layer of white ink. The map may then be shaped in vacuo by a conventional process to form a hemisphere for a globe. The map representations are positioned on the inside of the globe, which has a light therein so that when the globe is illuminated the two representations will be viewed in superposition, but when the globe is not illuminated only the outermost representation will be viewable.
