Abstract
1,030,463. Road vehicle suspension. FRUEHAUF CORPORATION. Jan. 7, 1965 [Jan. 7, 1964], No. 764/65. Heading B7D. Each road wheel of a semi-trailer is journalled on an axle 54 releasably secured to spaced V- shaped arms 20, 22 which are connected by transverse pivot pins 28, 30 at their forward ends to a longitudinal member 14 of the vehicle frame and are connected together at the rear by a transverse member 46 carrying a support 48 for an air spring 49. The axle 54 has squared ends 56 retained in slots 50, 52 in the arms by blocks 60, 62 secured by bolts 70, 72. The arms 20, 22 and transverse member 46 may be welded together or cast integrally. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) they are formed from a single length of tube, the axle being attached to the arms by U-bolt clamps.
