Abstract

1,030,243. Protective arrangements. D. NAPIER & SON Ltd. Feb. 27, 1964 [Feb. 1, 1963], No. 4341/63. Heading H2K. A protective arrangement for a resistance heater 11, e.g. for preventing icing on an aircraft, is responsive to frequencies which are substantially higher than the supply frequency and result from arcing. When arcing occurs, the higher frequencies pass through band-pass filters 13, 14 and a D.C. signal obtained through rectifiers 17 is applied to a five-stage transistor amplifier 22 to cause the energizing of the coil 25 of a relay. The relay changes over contacts 26 to complete a holding circuit for itself and changes over contacts 27 to energize a warning lamp 32 and to de-energize the coil 29 of a relay to open its contacts 31 in the supply circuit to the heater 11. To prevent incorrect operation due to transient conditions a time delay is provided by a resistor 35, a capacitor 36 and a Zener diode 38.
