Abstract
1,030,193. Bearings; belt gearing. MORGARDSHAMMARS MEK. VERKSTADS A.B. Jan. 30, 1963 [Feb. 6, 1962], No. 3822/63. Headings F2A and F2Q. [Also in Division B2] A supporting system for horizontal ball &c. mill drums is characterized in that the drum is partly or wholly supported by a plurality of endless belts or groups of endless belts, preferably of reinforced rubber, the outer side of one run of each belt engaging the peripheral surface of the drum along a part of the circumference of the drum, each belt running over at least two pulleys the shafts of which are parallel to the axis of rotation of the drum, and means are provided for separately tensioning the belts or groups of belts. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the drum 1 is supported on the upper runs 6 of a plurality of belts 4, 5 which pass over pulleys 7, 8, each pulley 7 being supported by a fixed block 10 and each pulley 8 by a block 11 carried on a plate 12 which at one end is mounted on a pivot 14 and at the other end rests on springs 16. The pulleys 7 are driven from a single motor through gearing or from separate motors. In a modification of this construction. Fig. 4 (not shown), the lower runs of the belts pass over guide pulleys and the other pulleys are level with the axis of rotation of the drum. In a further modification, Figs. 5 and 6, in which the drum journals 30, 31 are mounted in fixed bearings 32, 33, the drum is supported on the upper runs 6 of belts 34, 35 passing over pulleys 36, 37 and the other runs of the belts extend over a guide pulley 38. The pulleys 36, 37 are each driven by means of gearing from a motor. In another modification, Figs. 8 and 9, a drum, journal or the like 1 is supported by the upper runs 6 of belts 50 and the upper side of the drum &c. is engaged by the lower runs 51 of belts 52. The outer runs 53, 54 of the belts extend over guide pulleys 55, 56 respectively. Pulleys 57, 58 are common to both sets of belts. The shafts 59 of the pulleys 55, 56 are mounted on crank arms 60 which are connected to pivotally-mounted actuating levers 62, the levers of the pulleys 55 being connected together by means of a wire 63 and a pivotallymounted tensioning disc 54 which may be a spring or an hydraulic cylinder. In one modification of this construction, Fig. 10 (not shown), the upper belts pass over a single pulley while in another modification of this construction, Fig. 11 (not shown), the upper belts are omitted.
