Abstract

1,030,115. Surgical tables; beds. W. C. ALLEN. July 25, 1963 [July 27, 1962], No. 28948/62. Addition to 1,017,621. Headings A4H and A4J. [Also in Division B4] A platform capable of being adapted into a hospital bed comprises a base 1 and an upper movable support portion 2, the portions being interconnected at opposite ends and at least one of the interconnecting means comprising means for raising and lowering the support 2. As shown, at each end of the platform two transversely spaced struts 25 are provided, the lower ends of the struts being pivoted to a pair of transversely extending axles each of which has a pair of grooved wheels 27 at the ends for rolling along the longitudinal side members 3 of the base 1. The upper ends of the struts are connected to the longitudinal side members 8 of the support 2 by short pivoted links 30 or by pin and slot connections. One end of the check arms 23 is pivoted to the struts the other ends being pivoted to the brackets 21 mounted near each end of each outer cross member 5 of the base 1. Bearing brackets 12 mounted centrally of the cross members 5, 6 rotatably receive the ends of aligned shafts 13, 14 having screw threads of opposite hand. Centrally of the axles of the wheels 27 are nuts 28 which threadedly receive the screw threaded portions of the shafts 13, 14. The shafts are adapted to be rotated by a wrench and are adapted to be selectively connected or disconnected from each other. In a modification wherein the support portion 2 is tiltable, one of the shafts 13, 14 and its associated lifting and lowering gear is replaced by two pillars upstanding from the ends of the corresponding member 5, the pillar being rigidly attached to one of the portions and pivotally attached to the other.
