Abstract

1,029,848. Juice extractors. BROWN CITRUS MACHINERY CORPORATION. April 7, 1965, No. 14700/65. Heading A4C. In a juice extractor a fruit half is supported on a perforated support plate 29 which is moved upwardly towards a rotary pressure disc 7 to be compressed therebetween and control means is provided to maintain the compressing relationship of the plate 29 and disc 7 for a predetermined period of time. The plate 29 forms part of a support 15 which is guided by sleeves 28 on frame pillars 2 for vertical movement under the controlled action of a vertically movable pneumatic ram. A pneumatic control circuit (Fig. 8, not shown) is described whereby on manual operation of a lever the advance, dwell and retraction of the support 15 is automatically controlled. Extracted juice passes through plate perforations 30 into a funnel 32 fitted with an outlet. A guard sleeve 17 surrounds the disc 7 to prevent outward passage of juice during the fruit compression and is spring mounted 22 to be moved upwardly when engaged by the plate 29. The disc 7 comprises a spirally grooved compressible elastomer disc 7a, a softer intermediate disc 7b, and a metal base 7c. Means is provided for feeding individual half fruits to the plate 29, such means including a scraper for clearing residue of a previously compressed fruit from the plate 29.
