Abstract

Expandable particles of a polyvinyl-aromatic compound such as polystyrene have on their external surfaces a minor proportion (by weight of the particle) of a C12 to C20 aliphatic carboxylic acid amide containing a hydroxy group in its molecular structure, said compound reducing the tendency of said particles to agglomerate during pre-expansion. The amount of the amide used varies between 0.05 and 0.5% by weight of the particles. Specified amides are recinoleamide and 12-hydroxy stearamide.
