[Also in Division A1] A filament tow-cutter cylinder having at least one rotary blade 1 co-operating with a fixed blade 4 is characterized in that the fixed blade is anchored so that its part adjacent the cutting edge is chordal to the cylinder but during engagement by the rotary blade at least part of the fixed blade is moved against resilient restraint to a position tangential to the cylinder and at the point of engagement of the blade 1 with the cutting edge of the blade 4 the angle 5 between the radius R of the cylinder and a perpendicular to the cutting edge is acute. The blade 4 is resilient and flexible.
