Abstract
1,029,078. Electrophotographic processes, optical systems. GRETAG A. G. Dec. 3, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1962], No. 47757/63. Headings G2A, G2H and G2J. In order to facilitate the selection of colour negatives for printing, a positive projected image is obtained from the negative by a xerographic process, in which colour separation electrostatic latent images of the negative are developed and the developed images projected in superposition on a viewing screen. As shown a three colour camera beam-splitting arrangement employing dichroic mirrors 6 (reflecting blue light only) and 7 (reflecting green light only), forms colour separation electrostatic latent images 16,14 and 15 of a colour negative 3a, on a band 17 having a changed photoconductive insulating layer 13 on a flexible conducting backing. In order to develop the images, a magnetic roller 24, loaded with toner and magnetic carrier particles from trough 25, is slid along rails 27 in contact with layer 13. After development, inclined half-silvered mirror 4 is placed in the optical system and negative 3a is removed. Colour correction filters 28, 29, 30 may also be removed or replaced by another set. The developed images 14, 15 and 16 are projected in superposition on ground glass screen 31 by objective 5 and light souce 1. The band 17 is changed by winding roller 18 or 19 so that fixed brush 26 returns the toner to trough 25 and corona discharge device 21 charges a fresh section of the band. The photoconductive material may be either zinc oxide or silenium and the layer 13 may be either transparent, white or black. An aluminium foil backing may reflect light through the layer 13. The toner used may be black or white, the former being charged to the same polarity as the contrasting layer 13 and the latter being charged to the opposite polarity. Instead of relying on source 1 for the projection illumination, a white powder image may be illuminated by sources near layer 13 or, alternatively, a transparent layer 13 on a transparent backing may be used for diascopic projection. The use of a half-tone screen and of further multiple colour separations is referred to.
