Abstract

1,028,840. Molecular beams. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 19, 1963], No. 30601/64. Heading G6P. A beam formed of a mixture of charged particles and electrically neutral molecules is passed through a magnetic field structure which effects separation of the neutral molecules from the charged particles. The beam is contained in a stainless steel tube having a longitudinal " S "-shaped axis. Coaxial solenoids produce a magnetic field along the tube axis. The charged particles follow the internal path of the tube by reason of the action of the field on the moving charges. The neutral particles proceed undeflected along a linear path and are collected at a branch tube at the first bend.
