Abstract

1,028,552. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO. Ltd. March 30, 1965 [Jan. 16, 1964], No. 2083/64. Heading F2A. A plain bearing has its inner surface provided with a number of axially-extending steps having a radial depth of 0À002 inch. Each step extends circumferentially and decreases progressively in depth to the next step. The steps may be formed in the actual inner surface of the bearing or may be thin circumferentially extending leaves 3. Fig. 1 (not shown), each of which has one end bearing against but not attached to, a bushing 2 and the other end brazed at 5 to a spacer 4, the latter being brazed at 6 to the bushing 2. A hollow shaft 7, mounted in the bushing 2, rotates in the direction indicated by the arrow 7A. Apertures 13 in the leaves 3 permit escape of oil from the wedge-shaped depressions 10 to wedge-shaped chambers 11 so as to form a counterbalance of pressurized oil. In modifications, each of the leaves 3 has an end brazed at 8, Fig. 2 (not shown), to the bushing 2 and has the other end brazed at 5 to a spacer 4, the latter bearing against, but not attached to, the bushing 2; each of the leaves 3 has an end brazed at 8 to the bushing 2 and has the other end bearing against, but not attached to, the spacer 4, the latter being attached to the bushing 2; and each of the leaves 3 has an end brazed at 8 to the bushing 2 and has the other end attached to the spacer 4, the latter being attached to the bushing 2.
