Abstract

1,028,491. Toys. IDEAL TOY CORPORATION. Jan. 1, 1963 [Feb. 26, 1962], No. 71/63. Heading A6S. A doll has a movable head 14 and drive means 22 mounting an angled shaft 26, 28 extending into the head through a ring 32 so as to move the head on rotation of the drive shaft 26, 28, and is characterized by a crying mechanism 40 attached to the shaft 28. The crying mechanism includes a housing 44 slidably mounting a piston 52 to enclose an air chamber, and sound means attached to the piston actuated by reciprocating movements of the piston as the drive shaft rotates. The sound mechanism includes a reed assembly 62, 64, 66. Variation of intensity of sound is produced by slowing down the speed of fall of the piston by an elastic ring 76 mounted on a post 74 over which a plate 68 of the piston 52 passes before falling freely again.
