A boom for the retention of oil spillage on water comprises resilient foam material 11 or 17 (Figs. 1 and 3, not shown) having one or more buoyancy chambers 12 or 18 extending along the length thereof and interiorly lined or coated with material 13 or 19 non-permeable to air or liquids. The buoyancy chamber(s) may have means for inflation.
