Abstract
A topical anti-perspirant composition, which may be put up as an aerosol spray, comprises an antimicrobial agent and from 0.5 to 50% by weight of one or a mixture of the following acetylenic diols: 3,6-dimethyl-4-octyne-3,6-diol; 3,6 - diethyl - 4 - octyne- 3,6 - diol; 2,7-dimethyl - 3,6 - di - isopropyl - 4 - octyne-3,6-diol; and 2,4,7,9 - tetramethyl - 5 - decyne-4,7-diol, together with a dermatologically acceptable vehicle. Antimicrobial agents include astringent metal salts (e.g. Al, Zn, Zr), phenolic compounds, especially hexachlorophene, quaternary ammonium salts, and antibiotics. An example is given for an aerosol composition containing 3,6-diethyl-4-octyne-3,6-diol; 2,4,7,9 - tetramethyl - 5 - decyne-4,7-diol, and aureomycin, in ethanol with 1,3-butylene glycol and hexadecyl alcohol, using a mixture of difluorodichloromethane and tetrafluoro dichloroethane as a propellant.ALSO:Topical anti-perspirant compositions comprise an antimicrobial agent and from 0.5 to 50% by weight of one or a mixture of the acetylenic diols: 3,6-dimethyl-4-octyne-3,6-diol; 3,6-diethyl-4-octyne-3,6-diol; 2,7-dimethyl-3,6-di-isopropyl-4-octyne-3,6-diol; and 2, 4, 7, 9-tetramethyl-5-decyne-4,7-diol, together with a dermatologically acceptable vehicle. Suitable antimicrobial agents are: boric acid, quaternary ammonium salts such as benzyl dimethyl alkyl-ammonium chloride where alkyl is C8 to C18, or cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide; phenol, resorcinol, 8-hydroxy quinoline sulphate, hexachlorophene, and bithional, and antibiotics, (e.g. aureomycin); and also astringent metal salts such as those of aluminium, zinc, and zirconium. The compositions may be put up as a solution, ointment, powder, cream lotion, wax or gel in stick form, or as an aerosol spray, with conventional excipients such as ethanol, glycerine, surface active agents, oils, waxes, &c.
