1,167,173. Cosmetic aerosols. J. G. SPITZER and M. SMALL. 30 Sept.. 1966 [1 Oct., 1965], No. 43688/66. Heading A5B. An aerosol astringent and anti-perspirant composition comprises an astringent in fine powder form dispersed in a liquid vehicle which is substantially anhydrous, the liquid vehicle containing a liquified propellant and a non-volatile non-hygroscopic liquid, the astringent being in an inactive state when in dry powder form but which in the presence of moisture is converted to an anti-perspirant active form in which the astringent is present in an amount of from 0.2 to 10% by weight, and in which the non-volatile, non-hygroscopic liquid is present in an amount from 2 to 50% by weight of the total composition. Examples of suitable astringents include zinc chloride, zinc sulphate, zinc sulphocarbolate, aluminium sulphate, aluminium chloride, aluminium sulphocarbolate, aluminium chlorohydrate, ferric chloride, zirconium tetrachloride, and zirconium sulphate. The non-volatile, non- hygroscopic liquid may be a hydrocarbon oil such as tetradecane, an ester such as isopropyl myristate or glyceryl trioliate, an alcohol such as lauryl alcohol, a carboxylic acid such as oleic acid, or a dimethyl polysiloxane. The propellant may be a fluorinated hydrocarbon, propane, butane, pentane or isobutane. Optional ingredients include colloidal silica, perfume. and bactericides such as hexachlorophene.
