Abstract

1,028,121. Rolling nails. GUEST, KEEN & NETTLEFOLDS (SOUTH WALES) Ltd. Sept. 4, 1963, No. 35949/62. Heading B3M. [Also in Division F2] Barbed nails (see Division F2) are made by passing a continuous length of wire 16 between toothed rolls 17 before passing to heading and pointing apparatus. There may be a pair of rolls to produce an oval-sectioned wire with two opposed rows of barbs but to produce nails of a generally square section, with two pairs of opposed rows of barbs, there may be two pairs of opposed rolls in sequence, each pair in a plane at right angles to the plane of the other pair or there may be two pairs of rolls 17, Fig. 4, at one station on the wire and arranged to be freely rotatable in a common frame (not shown) on which are mounted four sets of bearings 23 for the spindles 24. In the latter arrangement the roll peripheries overlap as shown and the rolls and gears are adjustable axially to suit the diameter of the wire 16. Bevel gears 25 ensure uniform speed.
