Abstract

974,524. Drafting arrangements. ABBOTT MACHINE CO. Inc. Feb. 15, 1962, No. 5812/62. Heading D1D. In textile drafting apparatus comprising front drafting elements 13,14 and a back element 12 about which the roving R is wrapped, the element 12 is in the form of a number of slides 21 (see Fig. 2) lying on the surface of a rotatable roller 20, the slides being reciprocated longitudinally in such a way that the roving follows a spiral path in passing about the element 12. Preferably the slides lie in channels in the shaft 20 and are reciprocated, quickly in one direction and slowly in the other by fixed cams 2 which engage the ends of the slides. In the apparatus shown gearing 16 is provided to give the correct draft between the front and back elements and a frictional confining and advancing means 17 or opposed belts may be provided in the drafting zone.
