Abstract

1,027,987. Transformers. HIRST ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 19, 1964 [March 23, 1964], No. 12170/64. Heading H1T. An auto-transformer has its turns arranged on a core 11 (which may be ring shaped) in several layers 12, 13, 14, 15, the outer layer 15 having a bore track over which a sliding contact 16 moves whilst tappings 19, 20, 21, brought out to a tap-selector switch 18, divides the rest of the turns into sections preferably each containing the same number of turns as the outer layer 15. In its polyphase form the transformer has such a winding arrangement on, each of several limbs, the tap selector switches being ganged together and the sliding contacts also being ganged together.
