Abstract

1,027,938. Heat or cold radiating surface apparatus; heating or cooling buildings; airconditioning. L. H. CARMALT. Nov. 29, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 45160/62. Headings F4S, F4U and F4V. In a system for space-heating or cooling, or for heating or cooling an area such as a wall, floor or ceiling, or for heating an area such as an aeroplane runway, road or football pitch, by circulation of air, the air is forced by a fan 4 through a ducting arrangement comprising two spaced side ducts 1 interconnected by smaller section cross ducts 3 and by a cross-duct 2 similar in area to the ducts 1. The ducting is normally arranged below the surface of the area to be heated or cooled thereby as shown in Fig. 2. In an installation described, electric heating elements 5 are arranged in the duct 2. Alternatively, the ducting may contain means for cooling the air. When the ducting is incorporated in the wall, floor or ceiling of a room, the room air may be circulated through the ducting by way of branch ducts 8, 9, 10 in which control dampers (not shown) are arranged. Fresh air may be introduced into the system through the branch ducts. The system may include means for filtering and/or drying the air. The air ducts may be incorporated in or cast in concrete or the like, sufficiently massive to serve as a heat storage medium. Alternatively, for quick response heating the ducts are arranged near the floor or like surface to be heated.
