Abstract
1,027,404. Thermionic cathode constructions. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. March 17, 1964 [March 27, 1963], No. 11274/64. Heading H1D. A tubular cathode surrounds a heater assembly which includes a coil of heater wire mounted on an insulating hollow cylinder which surrounds, and at one end is supported by a metal collar which is joined to, a coaxial conductive rod, one end of the heater wire being clamped between the collar and the end of the insulating cylinder, such that the conductive rod constitutes one lead-in for the heater wire. The tungsten heater wire 30 for the tubular nickel cathode 10, having an emissive coating 14, is insulated with an alumina coating, and mounted on a ceramic tube 26. Nickel collar 34, which is insulated from the apertured upper end 20 of the cathode tube by an alumina disc 44, is apertured to receive and support the conductive rod 36, and is brazed to a copper coating 56 on the upper end of cylinder 26, one end 54 of the heater wire being embedded in the coating, such that rod 36 and flange 48 constitute a leadin for the heater. The lower end of the heater wire is embedded in a similar coating brazed to collar 38, which is welded to the cathode tube at 42 to provide the second heater lead-in via portion 18, which is thinned to reduce heat loss, and the flange 16.
