Abstract

A method of administering poison to animals comprises treating a quantity of particulate carrier material edible to the animal with the poison so that each particle carries a lethal dose of the poison, coating said particles of carrier material with an inert material which is acceptable to the animal, mixing the treated particulate carrier material with a quantity of the same or a different particulate carrier material free from said poison and edible to the animal and thereafter placing the mixture as a bait to be eaten by the animal. A drug to prevent vomiting may be mixed with the poison. The carrier material may be grain, cereal, fruit, dried fruit, meat, meat products or proteinaceous material. The poison may be sodium fluoroacetate, strychnine, arsenic, cyanide, organic phosphates, chlorinated hydrocarbons, 1-(1-naphthyl)-2-thiourea and 3-(acetonylbenzyl)-4-hydroxycoumarin. The coating is preferably water-repellent e.g. polyvinyl acetate. Compositions comprise a mixture of coated particulate material with poison and particulate material free of the poison.
